I have a client who works in InDesign CS2 and she needs some help with some files. I'm working on CC whichever the latest update is and I no longer have any of the old versions installed. From looking online it seems the only way is to backsave to IDML, then open it in CS4 or 3? And then save to IDX. I don't really want to go through the rigmarole of installing CS3 with all of the compatibility problems that might create. Any ideas as to what I can do?
The "only way" is to open the IDML in CS4, export .inx and open that in CS3, then export to .inx again. CS2 cannot read IDML or the .inx exported from CS4 unless you hack it (per http://indesignsecrets.com/double-downsave.php) and there's no guarantee it will work. The odds the file would resemble what you were doing in CC after so many conversions are pretty bad, too.
Ok, thank you. Good to have it confirmed. I am not installing CS4 and CS3 only to end up with rubbish anyway. Will have to find another way. Thanks
