Flash files corrupt how to reinstall

My system in 64-bites, WIN 8.1 running Internet explorer. Some of the web videos do not run and error message "update flash ..." appears. Flash is not showing on any list of programs and on some occassions a message "Flash Player ... some files may be corrupt ..." appears. I cannot remove the existing version as it does not show on any list and I cannot install a new version as the system is responding: "latest version is installed on your computer". How can I clear the corupt files (if any) and install new Flash? Also the following message appears sometimes when I try to install Flash " Flash is an integral part of the Internet Explorer and is already included ..." I had to activate ActiveX control to get rid of annoying message "This web page wants to run the following add-on: Adobe Flash Player"
