    library adds a clipping mask

Every time I place an image in the library, it comes out with an unwanted clipping mask.  Am I doing something wrong or is this a "feature?"

There are no clipping masks in InDesign. I think you referring to the frame that the image is contained in. An image can't exist in InDesign without a frame, so when you drag one onto an InDesign page, a frame is created automatically. If you want the image that you dragged out of the library to be in a different frame, select the image using either the Content Grabber, or the Direct Selection tool (white arrow), copy it, then select the other frame and choose Paste Into.

Oops, working in both InDesign and Illustrator and posted in the wrong forum.  This is an Illustrator concern. . . .
