Do you by any chance have an Intel Mac? I have a trial of Director on my Macbook and it's doing the same thing. An associate of mine it having the same problem with a Macbook Pro. (10.4.8) It's absolutely killing my productivity for a project I'm doing in school.
I can't get any tech support from Adobe either. It took them three weeks to reply to my e-mail suppot case and tell me they wouldn't help. Do you have a full version that Adobe might help you with?
