The Sony A7R II requires the latest version of LR - 6.1.1.
Your options are
- Upgrade to 6.1.1
- or buy a Creative cloud subscription (the Photograpy plan is a good deal)
- or use the free DNG converter to convert the raw files to dngs that can be read by LR 5. You will need the latest version of the converter - 9.1.1.
The support for the Camera raw for Sony A7R II (ILCE-7RM2) is available in Camera Raw version 9.1.1 , which is not available for Lightroom 5.7.1. We have to upgrade to Lightroom 6 or CC. However you can update the Camera raw Version For Photoshop CS 6 and will be able to open the Camera raw file from Sony A7R II (ILCE-7RM2).
Below is the Link for the document providing more information about update.
Just to clarify, Lightroom 5.7.1 will NEVER support that camera. You cannot update Lightroom with the Camera Raw plug-in. The Camera Raw plug-in is for Photoshop and Photoshop Elements only. The only way you can get new camera support in Lightroom is to update or upgrade the program. You have reached the end of the Lightroom 5 life cycle. In order to get more camera support it will be necessary for you to upgrade.
I would suggest upgrading.... not a big cost compared to your new camera.... but you can always d/load the free DNG Converter and convert the files to DNG which both apps you mention will read.
Thank you gentleman, this explains it. Camera Raw 9 works fine now with Photoshop.
I was confused because 5.7.1 did announce support for a7r2. I shall go for Lightroom 6 then.
