reset your preferences -
if that fails, uninstall, clean (http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html) and reinstall
Many thanks for the advice. I've tried resetting the preferences, but no luck there. I'll try a clean/reinstall when I'm in next week (I don't have the install discs with me today).
Is it worth mentioning that I only have this issue when amending Flash Slide Presentations? Regular Flash Files (AS 2.0/3.0) work fine. Unfortunate that this is for a waiting room screen app which requires slides! Apart from clicking in a frame beyond the default screen (i.e. > frame 155 in my case) even if I just drag to a frame higher than 155 the screen resets back to 1 to 155. Very odd.
there's never any reason to use slides.
just use the timeline and add keyframes where you want to locate slides. use actionscript to control the display of your 'slides'/keyframes.
I've written large flash slide type animations all in one in the past and the maintenance was a nightmare. New ads come and go every week and, for us, slides are perfect for this kind of application. I presume this is why Adobe added the feature. Ours also have a standard intro and exit routines so it's great just to duplicate a slide and add the main ad part. I wouldn't be able to justify the time/cost of moving so many slides into one animation, so will try your suggestion of clearing and re-installing.

they removed that feature for some reason, too.
my guess is because it was a nighmare to use and totally unneeded. i don't remember anyone complaining about that feature being removed though it sounds like you like it.
I didn't realise Flash Slide Presentations had been removed from from Flash Processional in versions following CS4.
I've tried a Flash install on brand new Win7 and Win10 laptops and both have the same issue. Looks like I'm sunk! I'm not Flash expert so Slides were perfect medium for me. I'll try and find an old XP machine to make edits using this software on - unless someone from Adobe has any other ideas?
you can install cs4 on new win os'es, though you may need to use compatibility mode to install.
what error message do you see when trying to install (after uninstalling, cleaning per Use the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems, restarting your computer and then installing)?
There are no errors when loading CS4 on Win7, Win8 or Win10 (except sometimes the well documented Flash Player error, but that's not an issue for me). The problem I have is that the Playhead returns to frame 1 after every click beyond the displayed window (frame 155 and above in my case) making it impossible to edit animations when installed on any Windows version after XP. So I'm currently trying to locate an old XP box which I'll use just for editing slides.
