InDesign is creating a page break in the middle of my document. Can't find the hidden command that makes following text go to the next page. Has this happened to any of you?

I'm in the middle of a book and have poured in text. Suddenly there is an uncalled for page break. The text is running along and then instead of running to a new line it starts across the spread in the following page. Hitting [right delete] or [left delete] doesn't do anything but delete the actual text (not the command to page break). There's plenty of room underneath the errant text. I've tried cutting text - then deleting pages - then pasting in text so that InDesign creates fresh pages (that didn't work). Any of you ever run into this. Can't publish this book with an unexplained page break!
