I would first try - if you haven't already - uninstalling and reinstlaling dirctor.
Well, I tried reinstalling Director, and now it just crashes before it ever fully launches.
Before the Splash Screen appears, I get the message: Director has encountered a problem and needs to close. Clicking OK and the attempted program launch goes away.
I'm baffled. I know it is an old version, but were there any updates that I could still download and install?
Did you uninstall your previous installation before reinstalling it? It
kind of sounds like some file in there is corrupt, and simply
reinstalling over the top may not do it.
I would do this (I am assuming you are using Windows, the same steos
apply to Mac, but the programs will be different...):
1) Uninstall Director from Add/Remove programs
2) Delete the Director folder off your hard drive. It is typically
c:\program files\macromedia\director mx
3) Do a full anti-virus/spyware scan and make sure there are no problems
--free spyware scanners=Spybot Search and Destroy or AdAware
4) Download and run ccleaner.
It is called "Crap Cleaner" and it's job is to clean up the junk from
your computer. Be very careful before you run it and make sure the
settings are correct or you may accidentally remove too much stuff...
6) Now that you should have nothing left of your old installation, go
ahead and reinstall Director. <cross your fingers>
If the problem still persists after all that, then either your
installation medium is bad (i.e. you have a bad CD or something) or
there is a serious problem with Windows.
