What version of Premiere Elements and on what computer operating system is it running?
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer and are you running the programs as administrator?
Very important...are you using Windows 8, 8.1, or 10 and using Windows Media Player for the playback? If so, please download and install the free VLC player as a substitute and let us know if you get video and audio playback of your MPEG2.mpg with the VLC Player. Microsoft has issue with MPEG2 on the Windows editions cited.

I have downloaded the current VLC version to several of my computers from that link and have had no problems with the download and install. And, I have not had any unwanted baggage coming along with the VLC download and install.
