You need to Change the Permission for the Adobe folder in both Library.
Go to the Location: ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe
CMD+Click on Adobe folder
Click on Get Info
Click on the Sharing & Permission
Click on Padlock
Change the Permission to Read & Write for all the User.

Thanks, Mohit! Changing the permissions (even though they looked okay) finally let LR open! Now, LR 5 and 6 work! I tried opening a LR 3 catalog but after it updated it to LR 5 no images showed up in the catalog. The slide holders are there, and if I hover the mouse over one it will show the file name, but there's no image. Fix one problem and up pops another one...

After you select any image from that catalog and go to the develop module, does it allow you to edit or it says" file could not be found"
Does it show you any exclamation mark to the corner of that Image.
In the Library module, there is no image, just gray, but yes, it does have an exclamation mark in the top right corner. When I change to Develop, it just shows the same gray, no other messages or alerts.
