    Long-distance Lightroom work w/ Smart Previews, trouble connecting files

      Hi! Someone out of state wanted me to help do some editing work for her studio. Via Dropbox, she sent a Lightroom catalog with Smart Previews so that I could edit the images. When I downloaded the catalog, it automatically opened in my personal, pre-existing Lightroom catalog. I was able to edit the files there, and when I was done, I exported the images as a new catalog and placed them on an external harddrive to send to her. When she received the harddrive, she could see the photos but all the filenames were different (about 20 characters long), and they would not connect to the original files that she has on her end. Can anyone help explain why this happened, and a fix for this without having to re-edit all the photos? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
