At work we seem to be having an issue with certain mov files being imported to AE without the audio track (ie, wav is empty). These are files we get from studios, and it doesn't happen to every single one, but we have run into a few. The mov will play back with audio in VLC, quicktime, etc- but when you import into AE, there is no audio.
Currently, to get around it we've been importing the mov into Audition and saving as MP3, then bringing that into AE. Seems to work fine, but just wondering what would cause the initial issue. Is it the way the mov was rendered by the studio? Also, would it matter if the studio used a mac and we're on PC here?
Just trying to find some answers. Thanks to anyone who can help!
Those problem files have the audio embedded in the video -- muxed audio. There's no separate audio track, and AE needs a separate audio track. You can transcode the video files and include audio tracks or export a separate audio file as you're doing.... but I wouldn't export an mp3. AE's been known to have problems with mp3's. I'd export wavs or aiffs.
ahh, this makes sense. thank you for your answer dave!
