Can I save Indesign CC to Cs6 in dropbox without making a copy and unlinking all images?

I have a client (magazine) who uses CS6, and I work remotely often. I just upgraded to CC 2015, and tho I can open CS6 Indesign files, when I've made changed i need to "save as" to an older version, which doesn't carry the linked images into Dropbox. I can't see anything I'm missing here, other than to not have upgraded! Am I right? At the moment even the smallest change means erasing a dupe file (CS6) and then relinking all images... this can be interesting when Dropbox is laggy!
