Why do link paths include .../Templates/... ??

    dkmiles Community Member
I've created a page template with navigation buttons and relative links to pages. But after creating pages from this template, whenever I test it out, the page cannot be found.

For example, instead of finding "about.htm" it says 'cannot find page ".../mysite/Templates/about.htm.'

For some reason .../Templates/ is getting inserted into the link path when I create a page from the template. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to remedy the situation?

thanks in advance for any help!

          -------^^^^^^

If you are seeing this, then your site is not properly defined. What is set
as the root folder of your local site?

Murray - thanks for the quick response.

The site is called 'Bruce_site' and is all contained within a root folder on my drive called 'Bruce_site." I just checked and that is the defined root folder. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

All links in your template files should be either -

              1. Relative to the template document, or
              2. Relative to the site root, or
              3. Absolute

Do the links in your template file meet that requirement?

I checked ' links relative to site root' in the site definitions page, and that didn't make any change.

How would I make the links relative to the templates?

It seems making the links absolute would be a major pain going forward with design.

                thanks for the help.

Are you trying to link to one specific file?

Are you trying to link to other files that are in the Templates folder??
(if yes- move the other files out. There should only be .dwt template files
                  in the Templates folder)

                  Try this:
                  Open the Template for editing.
                  Do a link check.
Fix the broken links by using the Browse to File dialog box, and I suggest
                  you use Document Relative paths..

When all the links work in the template file itself- save and let dw update
                  the pages based on it.

Now check those pages- the links should all work unless something is really
odd. If they don't work- please upload the template, and give a link to the
.dwt file and some pages based on it.

Many thanks for your help on this. I did the link clean up as specified.

Then it still didn't work...but then I changed all the links to include '.../' before them, it started working! Yahoo!

                    thanks again....

Do you mean you changed them in your template file? But of course - that's
what I told you in my first post.
