My PC unexpectedly shut down while Lightroom 6 was starting and then just rebooted. (PC windows 7. i7)
Now Lightroom wont start and a dialogue box says "Adobe Catalogue" cannot open because another application has already opened it.
A quick internet search says the lock file needs deleting but I cannot find it. An Adobe help page points me to : C:\Users\[user name]\Pictures\Lightroom\Lightroom 5 Catalog.lrcat.lock
Firstly, I'm on LR6 and my start up programs are on a small SSD. So if I navigate to that harddrive, then Program file\ Adobe\Adobe Lightroom I see lots of folders and then a list of may files. None give me a clue to what is a lock file or look like lrcat.lock .
I am not very savy on a PC and would be grateful of some urgent assistance. I have tried to uninstall the program and then reinstall, but to no avail.
On the Menu bar at the top of LR, go to Edit/Catalog settings and click on Show at the RH side. That will take you to the catalog folder where the catalog and the lock file (if present) will be.
lock file is located at the exact same location as your catalog.
Look under Pictures\Lightroom\ for Lightroom Catalog.lock and delete that (do not delete .lrcat file as that is your main catalog)
Thanks go to you both, problem is resolved.
You'd have thought that they would have made it easier to resolve what I am finding to be a common issue to many.
