Unaccountable pixellation of images in InDesign output

I have produced an InDesign document with plenty of images. At the last minute I intercede a few more images of the same quality (300dpi) yet these pixellated on output. The images print directly to a printer with no loss of quality, but once introduced into InDesign they seem to adopt this pixellation, particularly the lettering. Each of these images show that they are of the right quality in the info panel. I tried replacing one of them with an image created in Illustrator. This should not in theory pixellate on output to pdf, yet it did. I am baffled!
