Why is the system changing my <i> to <em>?

I have a navigation that I am using font awesome icon : <i> for the bullet point. Everything looks for the I go back in a few days and my <i> tags are changed to <em> tags. What is causing this and can it be corrected?

I think if you do this in the Admin, the editor changes your <i> tags on save.

• You could try accessing your menu through the Develop tab instead
• or put your font awesome tags in a contentholder.

This one of those long standing "undocumented features" of the BC WYSIWYG editor... a trap for the unwary for sure. I wish BC would correct the editor to stop this occuring

It is actually documented and has been for a while.

The old editor is XHTML compliant and i and b are not valid xhtml
