Premiere Elements 10 on Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 has major problem when it is running on a computer that is using a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card. The solution is not to update the driver to the latest version, but rather to roll back the driver version to May 2013.
I am not sure of the relationship of Asus GTX 970 to the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 but suspect that probably they have basic similarities.
Please read the NVIDIA GeForce side of the story.
I do not know if you will be able to find an old enough driver version online if you are caught in the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA GeForce issue.
Did the problem surface when you upgraded your computer to Windows 10? If so, explore your computer for the older driver that could have been replaced.
Not sure if your Device Manager/Display Adapter/Asus card name Driver Tab/Roll Back driver will work in this instance.
As for the current version of QuickTime requirement....there is a problem with QuickTime 7.7.8 (latest version) and Windows 10. It will not update to 7.7.8.
Use instead QuickTime 7.7.6 which is not the latest version but will meet the Premiere Elements System Requirement for latest version of QuickTIme installed on the same computer along with Premiere Elements.
An article was brought to my attention in which someone developed a workaround to get 7.7.8 in Windows 10. If you are troubleshooting, I would advise against using such a workaround to avoid introducing another variable into the troubleshooting equation.
Please review and consider, and then supply more details.
Thank you for the wonderful news that you have identified the cause of your issue. Well done.
And, thank you for the follow up to tell us the outcome which is appreciated.
