I have a team of graphic designers and a photographer. We have been "using" Extensis Portfolio Server to share and search photo files with each other. Portfolio has been troublesome and expensive. If we have photo files (lots of files) on our internal network, can Lightroom replace Portfolio for all team members to access the same files on the network and search metadata? We're already running Creative Cloud, I'd like to start using Adobe for this task if it is possible.
Lightroom does NOT have the network capabilities that you are requiring. It is necessary for the catalog to be on a local hard drive of each computer that is accessing the images. The problem you would encounter would be keeping the catalog synchronize on all computers. So I don't believe Lightroom is a solution for you in this situation.
