Why do my pictures all of a sudden appear to be low quality when they have high quality links

I'm working on editing a product catalog for my company. We have printed it many times and it has looked good, but for some reason all of a sudden, some pictures have been distorted and look pixelated. I have checked the actual and effective ppi and both are 300 but it still looks horrible and is printing the bad pictures. Since all my catalog files are all of a sudden showing bad pictures, I'm wondering if there is a setting on the InDesign program that I might have changed on accident, but I can't seem to figure it out. Any help would be great!
