Your M3 is not one of the cameras supported by Lightroom 5.
You need to either
- Upgrade to Lightroom 6/Lightroom CC; or
- use the FREE Adobe DNG Converter version 9.0 or later, and convert your RAW photos to DNG, which can then be imported into LR 5.
The Canon M3 was first supported in Lightroom 6/CC.
You'll never be able to open those files with Lightroom 5.
If you don't want to upgrade LR, download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all M3 Raw files to DNG format then edit the DNGs in LR5
Though I don't like the answer (because it renders software I already own useless) I really appreciate it!! Thank You!!
If you said you don't like the answer because it adds an extra step to your process, I would understand what you mean. But I don't understand how this makes your software useless, clearly it can still be used with your photos if you add this extra step.
I just started processing Canon M3 CR2 pictures today. I noticed that some appeared out of focus and the screen went black when I switched to the Develop Module. If I used Bridge to open them in Camera Raw, they were fine. I had LR 2015.6/CR 9.6 and Camera Raw 9.6. When I used LR to convert one to DNG it was fine. There is still a problem with the latest version of LR (2015.6) and some Canon M3 CR2 photos. It appears that the work around is to convert all the CR2s to DNGs.
