Go to the Lightroom preferences, click on the Performance Tab, then uncheck the box

No indeed. Almost every time a problem comes up with Develop in LR6/CC, whether it is crashing, slowness, or colors being wrong, it is because of the graphics card acceleration not working right. So it is almost the default answer to problems being posed on the forum nowadays and is almost always the correct answer. It helps some people with somewhat faster Develop tools if you have extremely minor editing requirements, but I think it should probably be turned off by default and come with a big warning when you try turning it on.
