VSH's tapes to AVCHD video same tape different segment lengths depending on overall length of record time

    ABB654

I have some old VHS tapes that I am trying to put on my computer.  I set up VCR record through star tech into AVCHD video with the video information below.  The concern is I don't know on the VHS tape how long the content part of the video tape is before the tape just returns to blue screen not recorded.  So I set the record for say 9.58 hours.  When I look at the video I see about 3 hours 11 mins of content.  But if I take the same VHS tape but set it to record for just under 4 hours then the content part (of the same video tape) is only 1 hr. 42 mins.  My concern is that I am missing some part of content.  I have checked multiple times and the content part ends with the same content on either the almost ten hours piece as it does on the just under 4 hours piece.

Here's the video information for the almost 4 hour one (then further below the video information for the almost 10 hours one):

I am still thinking this out.

I have just deleted what I had written last night and now have the following questions for you.

Given you have VHS tapes (analog) and you need to digitize them for use in your Premiere Elements projects.

What is the "9 hours and 52 minutes" and "3 hours and 11 minutes" that you are setting for what you are calling recording? Is that really the duration that you are setting in the converter for the analog to digital conversion? What device are you using for the analog to digital conversion?

When you recorded the original VHS tapes, what was your VCR settings at that time - SP, LP, or EP?

          More later

O.k. it seems there was something weird with the windows media player.  I got some information VLC media Play and when I play the video on that the content time for the sections in both the longer file vs. the shorter file is the same.  Still seems strange.  I would say the content should be the same despite how long the capture segment is set for.

Q:  What is the "9 hours and 52 minutes" and "3 hours and 11 minutes" that you are setting for what you are calling recording?

A:  That is just the title or identifier I used to show that one segment was recorded for 9 hours and 52 mins (the long one) and the other time the capture time was set for 3 hours and 11 mins.

Q:  Is that really the duration that you are setting in the converter for the analog to digital conversion?

A:  The duration for the longer one was about 9 hours 52 mins and the duration for the shorter one was about 3 hrs 11 mins.  no problem there.

Q:  What device are you using for the analog to digital conversion?

A:  StarTech USB2HDCAP USB 2.0 HD PVR Gaming and Video Capture Device - 1080p HDMI / Component

Q:  When you recorded the original VHS tapes, what was your VCR settings at that time - SP, LP, or EP?

            A:   I don't know.
