could you please share a screenshot of your Lightroom export settings so that we can assist better.
Do you receive any sort of message while viewing the image in preview?
Also, would suggest you to create a new catalog and test export process through that.
I don't get an error message of any sort. To attempt to open the JPG file, I either double click (Preview is the default app) or right click and select Preview. What happens is the file attempts to open, but it doesn't.
Attached are a screenshot of the Export settings. I also included a link to a short QuickTime video that shows what attempting to open the file looks like.
The issue exists regardless of whether the image is sized (max size set) or not, or whether I export to TIFF or other formats.
The settings seems to be fine.
If you are able to open those jpegs in Photoshop, then I believe there would be no issues with the specific jpeg files.
Preview is unable to read those jpegs somehow.
If you have another machine, you can send those jpeg files and check if you are to view them.
Or, you can share a download link for one of those jpegs and I will check that here.
Also, would suggest you to open a new document in Photoshop and save it as a jpeg and try to open in Preview to check if Preview is able to read that or not.
Interestingly, I just created a new catalog with just one of my images and exported the file using the same export settings. The file exported from that catalog does open in Preview.
What does this mean?
I've already done all of the things you suggest here. I've tried opening the files on my second computer, and Preview doesn't open them. I tried opening the JPG in Photoshop then saving it as a JPG with another name, and the file still does not open in Preview.
Well, it seems that going to a new catalog and then going back to my original catalog has had an effect. I just exported one of the same images, and it now opens in Preview. Very strange, but it's back to normal. Any thoughts on what might've been going on relative to the catalog?
That's really strange.
If it is working well in the new catalog, then you can go to file menu> Import from another catalog > to import the images from your main catalog
and then, test the export process.
But I don't have to do that. Re-opening my original catalog seems to have fixed the issue (whatever it was).
Oh, well, all good for the moment.
Good to know you got it working back
I'm having same issue since el capitan update and lightroom update
Have you found a solution? I would love to know
Have you found a solution?
The previous post says: "Re-opening my original catalog seems to have fixed the issue (whatever it was).".
If that doesn't address the problem, please go to Help > System Info and post the exact version of LR you are running -- "lightroom update" is ambiguous. Also, include all of the Export settings you're using. Finally, if you can upload the original photo and the exported version to Dropbox (or similar), that will enable others of us to try to reproduce the problem and troubleshoot.
I created a new catalog, with just one image in it (not that that matters; it's just what I did). I exported the image and it opened in Preview.
I then re-opened my original catalog, exported an image from it (one for which a previous export would not open in Preview), and it and other images I've exported since do open in Preview.
I wouldn't call this a "fix" but it did resolve the issue, at least for now.
