Using RoboHelp X5 to generate a Web Help file. When the user
hovers over a book in the TOC, a tooltip displays, indicating the
title of the book.
Is it possible to edit the tooltip text in order to provide
the user with something more informative? Would I like the user to
see in the tooltip is a brief overview of the chapter's contents.
Currently the user sees the overview by clicking the book and
having the Overview topic display.
There is no ready-made script available, but it could be
done, with a little creativity and some spare time for writing it.
Most of us have a lot of the first, not much of the second. Your
best bet would be to go to your IT/Web department, outline your
idea, and see if they can help.
You may have to make some decisions, such as: must this work
across all the major browsers? Are you willing to update two
sources for the Overview topics (one for the html page, one for the
.js include), or must the script integrate the existing (html)
pages? And, isn't this going to make for a huge tooltip?
Once written, you can add the changes to your Webhelp with
ReplaceEm, so you don't have to edit the output by hand with every
