We cannot say that CS 6 is completely compatible with EI Capitan , however it should work fine.

Even Photoshop CC 2014 is not mentioned as compatible with Mac OS X 10.11

Bob, are you getting any error message?  are you getting error after upgrading to Mac OS X 10.11?

If possible post a screenshot .

            Note:

During OS upgrade process , there will be certain changes with System Files which may have affected installed Apps .

If you could provide exact error message or screenshot , it will be very helpful to find out cause of issue.

Photoshop is now working for me with El Capitan. It turned out that the OS didn't break Photoshop after all. Instead, as a result of the OS installation process, El Capitan made the Permissions for Adobe 'Read Only' for some reason. Once I went to the Adobe 'Get Info' and changed the Permissions to 'Read and Write,' Photoshop loaded successfully and now performs fine.

How do you go to the Adobe 'Get Info' and change the Permissions?
