Hi pjc52,
Lightroom 5 is compatible with Mac OS X El Capitan
We have not found any issues regarding Lightroom 5
However, the ones who are using it might be able to tell better about the same here.

Jao vdL Oct 14, 2015 2:09 PM (in response to pjc52)I believe that the only thing that doesn't work is tethering with Nikon and Leica cameras just like LR CC/6 but have no firsthand knowledge.

adord63441564 Nov 2, 2015 7:55 PM (in response to pjc52)If you haven't upgraded it yet to El Capitan then don't. Ever since I upgraded to El Capitan I'm not able to import my photos from my Nikon camera to Lightroom 5 (5.7). Even from desktop photos to lightroom 5, It says that the "Software is Incompatible."

Hi mary kayn,
Could you please confirm the error message that you get while importing?
Also, please share a screen shot of your import window settings and check if the destination location is set correctly. -

erickb11385647 May 29, 2016 11:51 AM (in response to pjc52)My LR 5 will not open after installing El Captain last week. I want to revert back to Yosemite, but it looks like an all day project to do that. Is there a fix that I'm not aware of short of the uninstall idea?

V. Lightroom_5_LS11_mac_5_7_1 is unable to load on macosx 10.11.5 from 10.10.1
I just bought this version 2 years ago for 100 € I mean could you make me able to use the application I bought from you ?
Or did I have to "find" a new application that would be correctly working with elcaptain because I paid once 100€ I won't twice !
So fixed that quicly guys is your work to do so !

Statuqu0 Jun 11, 2016 8:17 AM (in response to Statuqu0)fixed it is a security issue :
Adobe won't let the application worked on sensitive case partition drive !
That mean you have to create a new partition where you will locate the application folder to proper load.
But I can only say we are in 2016 and if you don't get a sensitive case partition on your drive - it's like you are opening your device and informations, contents in public mode and all can acces to it.
There is only one protection today to gain some time for the protection of your computer : the sensivity case drive.
Think about it dev please. you have to work in the customer way !
