The original media files are in the same location as they were
originally--on an external hard drive (not the same location as the
catalog, but they never have been in the same place). Those haven't been
moved at all. LR is hung up on start up (I just see the LR 6 start screen
with the trees). I tried the opt/command at start up and could select an
older catalog from that point, but when I do, it asks whether I want to
upgrade to current LR 6.
I appreciate your help!
Also, the LR catalog is currently in the default location: C:../pictures/lightroom/...
Do you have any lock file at the same place where you have the catalog?
I do now. I deleted the one that was there before trying to open it again.
Look for the file that has the same name as your catalog, but ends in .lrcat.lock in the same folder as that catalog. Delete that lock file.
Open any other Catalog(or create a new) in Lightroom
Go to File> Open and then open the main Lightroom Catalog .
May I know how many images do you have in the catalog which you are not able to open?
I deleted the .lock file.
I can't go to file>open because LR won't open. I tried opening an old catalog (LR 4) from the .lrcat file (and told it to upgrade the previews to LR 6). LR still hung up at open. That is, I just have the spinning wheel. I get the menus across the top, but can't click them because LR isn't open--just "opening."
How many images? A lot. Thousands.
Thanks again for your help!
I just re-installed LR 6 and it worked fine! Don't know what the problem was.
Thanks for your help.
