I'm trying to create an animation where a ball rotates around a still object. how would i make it so during half the rotation the ball is behind the object, and the other half of the rotation is in front of the object??

            You have three choices:

            1) Dynamically load both objects, using ActionScript, then use hitTest and swap levels. This is convoluted and not recommended
            2) Break up the animation so that half of it is behind the object, half in front
            3) urami's suggestion: use a mask that covers the entire rotation area of the ball, with a hole cut in it matching the shape of the central object. Then the ball will appear to rotate behind it.
