Lightroom 6 (standalone version) freezes at startupscreen

    Rob62

I have LR 6 as a standalone version on a windows 8.1 computer
Last saturday as usual I made a backup at closing LR.
Sunday when I started LR6 it freezes at the startup page.
I shut it down, did a second start ... same result.

Then, I thought maybe the latest backup was corrupted, I tried to open from a previous backup > same result: freeze at startup

Looking on the internet I read something about .lockfiles (which should be automatically removed by shutting LR down)
There indeed where .lockfiles. I tracked them all down using explorer and did remove them.
New startup > still freezes at startupscreen

I moved catalogus and backup and preview files to another harddisc.
Made a new attempt to open LR: still freezes! grrr.

What other opions can I try to get it to work again?

      ! I didn't install new plugins, I didn't do an upgrade (there wasn't any ;-) )
I hope someone has a solution.

          Hi Rob,

Go to Device manager and disable the Graphics adapter from there and then make changes to Lightroom Preferences.

          Open Control Panel

          Click on Device Manager

Right Click on Graphics Processor listed under the Display Adapter.

          Click on Disable.

Open Lightroom<< Go to Preferences<< Go to Performance tab << Uncheck the GPU

          Restart the Lightroom.

          Go back to Device manager.

Right Click on Graphics Processor listed under the Display Adapter.

          Click on Enable.

          Hope it helps.

          Regards,
