InDesign replaces spaces from excel document

I'm on a Mac using InDesign CC. When placing a *xlsx file in my document, some spaces get's replaced by a 'Ê'. The numbers where this happens are in the excel-document formatted as numbers, with 0 decimal places and using 1000 seperator. It's this "1000 seperator" that get's wrecked when linking my file. I can't find any setting for how to handle the display of such things. What can I do to fix this?
