I have Lightroom 4 on my desktop PC (Windows 7 Prof). The hard drive failed today but fortunately I have a copy of a back up of my most recent Lightroom catalogue on an external drive. Successfully installed Lightroom 4 from my CD onto my laptop (Windows 8.1). Then copied my catalogue on to the laptop too. However, when I then tried to open the catalogue it just said cannot open because unwritable. Surely one can use Lightroom on different computers and transfer catalogues between them. If not what was the point in backing anything up. How do I resolve this and not lose a year of work?
