I'm working on placing a word document of a manuscript into InDesign CC. I spent hours upon hours getting the text document formatted just right so that I could just place it without having to do much else. To my dismay, some of the poems I'm placing are showing up with random gray lines interspersed throughout the text box. Even more troubling, when I export it to PDF, the lines are flat out black. How do I get rid of these? If there is any way to do this efficiently in InDesign without having to modify the original text document, that would be ideal. Attaching screenshots below. Thanks in advance for any help!
Those look like paragraph rules (rule below, in this case), and you evidently have some empty paragraphs used to add space instead of using Space Before or Space After to spread the paragraphs apart.
Oh my god you're absolutely right! I looked in the paragraph rules box, and it was putting a 0.125pt line below paragraph returns. Changed the pt size to 0 and they went away! Thank you so much!!!!
