I've had this same problem for a long time and have been launching the apps via the start menu, however they aren't being updated via the creative cloud desktop app.
Adobe was no use and just advised me to keep reinstalling the apps, which on my slow internet connection takes all night per app.
To solve the problem was really simple.
I just just had to change the language in the Creative Cloud app preferences to "English (North America)" .
Even though I don't live in North America, I'm in the United Kingdom.
Now everything works fine and all apps are listed the the CC desktop app.
I'll just have to pretend I live in North America from now on, and remember that pants means trousers not underwear!
