I have a 4k shot that I'm trying to do detailed Face tracking on, and I couldn't get past maybe 1500 frames before AE gives me an error telling me I need more memory. So I resized the shot to 960x540, and I'm still getting the error. What gives, surely I should be able to do more than 1500 frames- the shot is about 5 minutes long.
I'm on a 2015 Mac Pro, 32 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 ECC RAM, 3 GHz 8-Core Intel Xeon E5, latest version of After effects.
Is there something I can do to make this work? Also, I notice that I can't track ProRes shots, only h264 seems to work?
Five ve minutes is a huge amount of time for a tracking shot. To minimize processing time render your original video to an image sequence and track that. If that doesn't help you will need to split the shot up in the segments. Tracking takes a bunch of memory and eats it up very quickly. Doesn't make much difference what tractor you use, they all gobble up memory like crazy.
Ok, thanks, I'll try that. Can I ask though- what advantage, memory wise, does a image sequence offer over a QT?
