Hello, I uploaded photos to edit about a week ago. I edited a few for sneak peeks for my clients and uploaded them to Facebook. I went back into lightroom to finish editing these sessions but Lightroom says the files cannot be found. There is an exclamation point in the right hand corner of the picture. I checked the back up for that day but they aren't there. Please help! I need to finish these sessions for my clients!
This means you either deleted, moved or renamed the original photos (or the folders that contain them) outside of Lightroom. On Windows, it can also mean the drive has been assigned a different letter.
If you moved the photos or folders that contain them, the easiest thing to do is to use your operating system to move them back to where they were (and hint hint hint, don't move them outside of Lightroom again)
The complete set of instructions for fixing this problem can be found here: Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders
I can't find them on my mac or external hard drives. i've tried a recovery program but still can't find them. It's like they never existed.
Have you used your operating system's search function to search for them?
Are they on your camera card?
Do you have backups?
