Which version of LR are you running exactly (use the System Info in LR to get this information) ?
If you are on 2015.2 or 2015.2.1 deactivate the new import:
- Go to Lightroom > Preferences.
- Click on the General tab
- Uncheck “Show ‘Add Photos’ Screen”
- Restart Lightroom
or even better roll back to 2015.1.1: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/roll-back-to-prior-update.html

I've got 2015.2.1
Show add photos screen is already deactivated.
Can you explain why that (or the gpu) would have any effect on the "loading" issue? I don't see the connection.
Depending on the graphic card you use, various issues have been seen. It doesn't hurt to check.
You may also want to try reseting the preferences: http://www.lightroomqueen.com/articles-page/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/
I don't know if this helps id the issue, but another thing it does now in CC that never occured before:
I see an image load just briefly,,, then it changes to a different look.
I understand it's processing the preview slightly different than the camera, but
1) never did this before in all the years of LR... I never had to see it change.
2) again, the previews are supposed to already be built,, thus why am I seeing anything happen at all?
Instead while it "loads" it looks one way, then differently once it's done.
In the same vein, images are "unsharp"/ blurry (ultra low res) until I click on them. Then I have to wait for them to sharpen (and I"m talking in the thumbnails).
This is not immediately after an import... it's anytime after the import.
