Photoshop is for image processing. Subsequently you Place it/them in InDesign and add text. You then Export your InDesign document as a PDF and pass it to your printer.
InDesign is the industry standard application for producing books, magazines, brochures and flyers and more!
But you'll probably need to get some training such as the online ones from Lynda.com and TrainSimple.com

Define “buying.” If you mean subscribing, then yes, it’s about the best there is.
Thanks for the update Derek. I have isolated myself to PS, I think you suppose to do everything there. But its time to learn another adobe program! Work is requesting for brochures, flyers, etc... so here we go.

These days "most" printers want PDF. But you must talk to the printer. They have different requirements depending on the equipment they have available. Don't guess...ask!
