thank you guys - do you have a link on how to use the converter? if I choose, 'convert to dng' in the import tab, i get the same errors.
never had to use converted files before - would you say its fine, or worth the 80 bucks to upgrade to 6.1.1?
your help much appreciated
You need to download and install the latest version:
This camera is not supported by this version of Lightroom.
Check the list of cameras supported by Lightroom : https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
You might use DNG converter and convert the .arw images to .dng and can import them to lightroom.
As even DNG converter have some limit of camera support , so you can give that a try.
IMHO, the update is worth it. You may also like some of the other new features like HDR or Panoramas.
In case you so the upgrade, make sure to NOT update tothe latest 6.2 or 6.2.1 and stay on 6.1.1 until 6.3 is out. There are just too many bugs int 6.2.x.
thank you all for the quick responses - great forum...
i did the dng update, but still can not quite figure that out... do i simply import the arw files and choose, copy as DNG? when I try this, i get the same issues - it can not read the original arw file.
is it possible that the dng converter can not read these files yet either? Doubtful as I have read others' success stories.
as for the update - can someone send a link please? I searched and found the unpaid download page for 6+ but these do not work for me as I need the paid upgrade...
again - thank you all you people are awesome
You need to convert the raw files with the external, new installed DNG converter before you can import them into LR - it's an additional step before starting/importing into LR.
You then import the converted DNG's into LR.
The install can not update the LR internal DNG converter, for this you need to update LR.
For the update (standalone, perpetual license, not CC), go here, scroll down to LR, and hit buy on the right side.
For the CC version, open the same link, scroll down and click on the LR logo on the left side.
The DNG Converter is a standalone program. You install it, then run it, and choose the folder where your raw files are. Then click Convert and the program creates DNGs. Those DNGs and only those DNGs will import into the older LR.
If you want to upgrade there are two payfor options:
LR 6 which has panorama and HDR functions for $80.
LR CC 2015 which is the latest version of LR with any added features not in LR 6 for $120 a year paid $10/month.
Both versions can be found on fhte Products link at the bottom of every adobe.com page if you scroll down.
The LR CC is available if you click on the Lightroom word in the list and LR 6 is available if you click on the Buy link on the LR line in the product list.
and choose the folder where your raw files are.
This bit's really important, Nick - it bears bringing out: you point the DNG converter at the folder, not the files within it.
thanks - very helpful
