1. Re: AIR applications all crash on Vista
rantingrick Apr 3, 2009 11:56 AM (in response to rantingrick)I've installed a handful of additional apps to see if I just got unlucky. I went to the "most popular" list inthe Adobe marketplace and installed the AccuWeather app, an Icon Creator thing, Twhirl... crash crash crash.
At best, they run while i click around and as soon as I try any keyboard input, they crash. Incidentally, this is the same issue I have with Apple Safari. I can click links, but if I attempt any keyboard input it crashes. -

slmille4 Apr 3, 2009 12:05 PM (in response to rantingrick)I have 2 computers with Vista and they both run Air apps fine. Maybe try reinstalling the Flash player or possibly installing a different version of the Flash player? -
3. AIR applications all crash on Vista
jbenson@oper8 Apr 3, 2009 1:28 PM (in response to rantingrick)Just curious: Safari and Chrome (webkit based browsers like AIR's built in browser) have in the past had significant crash issues related to language / regional settings and keyboard input.
Just a shot in the dark, but since other webkit browsers on windows have experienced this it's possible AIR inherited the issue. Is your system locale english or another?
You also might want to try a complete uninstall of the air runtime (including cleaning up the bits and pieces that AIR leaves behind) and reinstalling it. I have fixed a pc that had a corrupt install this way successfully.
Here's a good blog post about that:

My 2 cents etc.

4. Re: AIR applications all crash on Vista
rantingrick Apr 3, 2009 1:53 PM (in response to rantingrick)I saw that article. I'll have to try that.
But to answer your question: yes, local is english (US). Also, Chrome runs fine. -
5. Re: AIR applications all crash on Vista
rantingrick Apr 3, 2009 2:25 PM (in response to rantingrick)Well, thanks guys, but no luck.
I uninstalled Safari, all AIR apps, AIR itself and Flash. Ran the Windows Installer Cleanup tool, and then reinstalled Flash, AIR and one AIR app.
Started the app and the second I touched the keyboard, crash. I simply cannot run AIR applications on my computer under any circumstances.
I suppose the next step would be to reboot in Safe Mode and then add things one by one, but I guess I just don't care that much about AIR or Safari to go to all that trouble. -
6. Re: AIR applications all crash on Vista
jbenson@oper8 Apr 6, 2009 9:22 AM (in response to rantingrick)For what it's worth, we have 11 pcs, 2 macs and 3 linux boxes at our office that are successfully running AIR and AIR apps. Unfortunately some of your trouble may not be directly related to AIR but rather underlying system corruption.
Best of luck and let us know if you happen across an answer to your woes, might help someone else who has a similar problem.

7. Re: AIR applications all crash on Vista
rantingrick Apr 6, 2009 11:38 AM (in response to jbenson@oper8)I suspect that's so. There must be something on the system that conflicts with AIR in particular or webkit. I haven't found anything regarding Safari either, so I suspect it's something fairly particular to my system. It's strange that Chrome works great, so it's not like webkit is automatically problematic.

8. Re: AIR applications all crash on Vista
rantingrick Apr 8, 2009 6:09 PM (in response to rantingrick)I think it's a conflict with an application called AllChars - a super useful app for those of us who type in multiple languages and want to use accented characters.
When I disabled it, AIR apps ran, but sadly this is a pretty essential utility for me and I've not seen anything comparable.
The strange thing is that I have AllChars and on both my computers and yet on the Vista box it causes a conflict, while on XP it doesn't. I wonder why that is.
Anyway, thanks for the suggestions.
