Having a scary issue. I'm trying to scale from 1080p to 4k and UHD. When i change the setting in the composition it expands the screen and my graphics are smaller. I grab it and scale it to fit the screen and the image looks fine, but the effects are only working on the original size. How do I upscale like this and get the effects to look the same? Is there a way to do it all in one step? Is this even possible at all?
Most effects in AE use absolute pixel units for their values. You have to go in and update the values accordingly. There's a number of scripts out there to help with this, including the comp resizer script that comes with AE out of the box.
First, save your project with a new name. Then, using the File menu open this:
Select the comp in the Project Panel and then set your new width in this:
If you have nested comps (pre-comps) you'll have to do the same with all of them.
That should do it. If it doesn't we need a detailed description of your comp and the modified properties of the layers that are giving you problems. Find modified properties in a layer by selecting the layer and pressing the U key twice.
