indesign best exporting technique?? once and for all

      Hi people,

I am new to indesign and I am having printing / exporting problems in all my documents,

      I usually print this way.

      my composite colour is CMYK

I create a new flattener preset in and bring the slider completely to the left

then click > file > print > flattener preset > ignore spread overrides.

The main problem I am getting with my PDFS is broken horizontal lines in my graphics or text.

does anyone know why this is or does anyone havea  rule of thumb for me to follow when creating a pdf for print?

      thanks for your help
