Would suggest you to reset Lightroom Preferences and then, try again.

I've deleted my com.adobe.Lightroom6.plist multiple times, but LR always finds a preferences file again. It appears to be new but is pointing to my catalog already.
That help article is out-of-date and contains incorrect instructions, but despite repeated requests, Adobe employees keep referring users to it.
First, after deleting the .plist file, you need to reboot your computer before restarting LR. (Recent versions of OS X cache the contents of .plist files in memory, which is why you kept seeing its old contents keep coming back.)
Second, there is a keyboard shortcut that lets you reset the preferences in LR 6 / CC 2015 without rebooting.
