Yes, you need to check the Permission to both Source & the destination location.
Browse the Picture's folder using the Finder.
You can edit the Permission by cmd+Click on that folder
Go to Get Info
Check the last Option Sharing and Permission
Unlock the Pad lock
Change the Permission to Read & Write to all listed users.
You can add more name by click on + sign at the bottom
once all done, Apply changes to enclosed item by click on the gear icon at the bottom
Also, you repair the disk Permission refer: Repair disk permissions with Disk Utility - Apple Support
Let us know if that helps.
Hi, i've checked permissions - they're fine. There's only one user so I don't need to add any more. Apple just ran first aid kit on disk utility for me, so possibly that has helped. Will try again with LR and let you know. Katrina
I’ve tried again - permissions are fine, and have run the First Aid Kit on the Disc Utility. Sadly I get the same message. LR is unable to read my raw files or jpegs. What else can I try?
Please post a screen shot of the Get Info window with the permissions section showing for the Top Level folder you are trying to copy the images to.
It should be / or /Users like the screen shot above.
We have heard this before, "Permissions are Fine" when they really aren't.
do you think it would make a difference if i updated to 5.7
if so please can you tell me how do to this, as i don’t have creative cloud
Just download 5.7.1 from the Adobe website. Top link on a google search: Adobe - Lightroom : For Macintosh : Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7.1
That probably won't fix this but you should do that anyway. It is extremely likely shootist is right that your destination is not set up correctly. Either you're importing to the wrong place (double check!) or it is now in a protected area that is now off limits in El Capitan. Apple protected a lot of root level folders in El cap from being written into by ANY user as a security measure.
Hi, thanks for your continued help everyone.
Here is my screenshot regarding 'permissions'. Is this right? The computer is registered as sam campbell (husband) but I'm the only one who uses it. should I still change 'everyone' to 'read and write'. I was about to try that, but it said that once I changed it, it could not be undone.
Secondly, here is my screenshot of how I import - I've always imported to Pictures, and each time I import a folder is created with the date of import.
Is this all OK, or do I need to change anything?
Thanks v much
Did you clean up after updating OSX. It is usually necessary to trash the prefs.
Quit Lightroom and launch Finder
On the top menu click go whilst pressing the Opn (Alt) key and then choose:
Delete the file:
Quit Finder and re-launch Lightroom 5. Let us know if that makes a difference.
Well I did this, and then re-launched, and tried to upload photos from a different card, same camera. and it worked - really well ! So I was really pleased.
However I have now tried with two other cards (same camera) and have encountered the same problems. It just won’t import. Doesn’t even give me a message anymore. Just gets stuck on ‘importing images’
