    Disaster performance with lightroom 6.3

    nejcm96663459

      Hi!

updated from 6.2 that was at least working, but slow. now it is unusable. it is eating memorry till the system pauses the application. currently 25gb memory used and 20 gb compressed memory, doing nothing!! (paused mobile sync, face detection, ....!!) and growing.

i was unable to get system information without force closing lightroom and restarting... :/:/

      my system:

The recurring theme in pretty much every single every post like this?

          Mac.

Lr flies on my Win 8.1 box...

But assuming you won't move to Windows, the standard advice is - roll back to the previous version.

Roll back to a prior update version

I don't see this on my Mac. In fact 2015.3 seems to be faster than 2015.1.1. I can even turn on gpu acceleration now without major slowdowns even when using brushes. 2015.2 was completely unusable. Does this also happen with a fresh, empty catalog?

              Hi Nejcm,

We are sorry to hear about the issue.

Can you please try the following steps:

              Solution 1:

              • Go to Lightroom > Preferences(Mac) or Edit> Preferences(Windows)
              • Click on the Performance
              • Uncheck “Use Graphic Processor” and Restart Lightroom

              Solution 2:

Reset Lightroom preferences by holding the  shift + option (Mac) or shift+alt (Windows) while launching Lightroom.

Please let us know if it helps.

              Regards

              Sarika

Can you please confirm by "memory" you mean Lightroom is consuming that much RAM? Because the numbers do not add

up when you say it is using 25Gb +20Gb compressed. Your system info indicates that you only have a total of 16Gb RAM installed.

So it sounds like you are actually telling us it is using a total of 45Gb of hard drive storage/space?

In which case the solution we give to you will be entirely different.

If indeed it is actually a HD storage problem how much free space does your hard drive currently have and how big is your catalog?

I suspect LR is busy creating previews for your catalog and your Camera RAW cache size may be too big for the available space you have.

You may also have a video cache that ran oversize (A problem that was present for some people when using LR6.2) that you may be able to delete.

                  Hi!

well, also having problems offloading 16gb card with cca.400 photos (card is formated with no errors what so ever) third time succesfully. yes, the amount of ram my machine has is 16gb. the ram consumed was read from the activity monitor, tab memory (osX)...

                  40+gb disk free...

raw cache setting and video cache limit both at 3gb....

                  ??

thank you all for responses! i hope i find a working solution.

nejcm, one thing that will bring Lightroom completely to its knees if you import more than a few images at a time is to have automatic face detection turned on. Make sure that in catalog settings->Metadata you have it turned off. Double check using the little triangle next to the logo in the upper left corner that it is paused. It will balloon your memory usage and make the entire Lightroom experience unbearably slow. It's really quite bad to have it turned on. Secondly, except if you have the very best very latest Mac Pro, keep GPU acceleration turned off in Preferences->Performance. Having it turned on will significantly slow down your Lightroom workflow.
