You can try turning off System Preferences > General > Automatically Show Hide Menu.
However, CS5.5 is old and not supported on El Capitan. It will not be updated. Many others have similar problems.
thank you for trying to help. I know it's an the adobe is old but am just confused to as why every other applicaiton works just fine and not indesign the one i use the most.
InDesign has a more complex file format than Photoshop or Illustrator. It supports more types of objects (vector, raster, type), more color spaces, layers, master pages, complex grouping, etc. and it has to store its information in a database. Photoshop is just dealing with pixels. It requires more effort to keep InDesign up-to-date when Apple makes major changes in the operating system once a year.
