Which OS? If it's El Capitan, untick "Automatically hide and show menu bar" in El Capitan System Preferences under the General Tab?
If this doesn't help try trashing your InDesign Preferences: Troubleshooting 101: Replace, or "trash" your InDesign preferences

Edit the prefs to set the number of recent files to display to 0
I have the same problem. My solution is using hot key((((
