In order to change security of a PDF you need to know the Permissions password. Open password allows you only to open PDF but not to change its permissions.
If I was not the originator of the PDF with security, how do I obtain the Permission password. In the mortgage loan origination business we need to be able to combine many pdfs into one file that does not require a password to open. We have the Open Password. What is the best way to accomplish this?
You could export it to word, then save it down from word as a PDF. You should then have full permisions for this PDF.
Open the PDF, go to File > Export to > Microsoft Word > Microsoft Word then select where you would like to save it. Then open up the word doc and save as a pdf.
It's a roundabout way of doing it but if it doesn't work then let me know. Apart from contacting the author (recommended) or hacking into the PDF (not recommended) I don't think there's any way to obtain the permission password with only the Open password.
This works great! Note: There was no Export in the File drop down but there was Save As which gave the ability to select Word in the File Type drop down. Thank you so much. I had spent an hour on the phone or Chat trying to get an answer from Adobe.
