I have a document that I have had for a few years and use it almost daily. As of 2 days ago out of the blue its "secured" and requires a password. It's not in any way linked to anyone else. Nobody else has access or permission to this. And i never put a password myself. So how do i get rid of this mystery password that has suddenly appeared?
What does it say under File - Properties - Security?
You can't open it at all? The chances are, it was damaged by something, which makes it seem like it needs a password. Not recoverable, go to backups.
You can check the modification date on the file.
* If it is recent, some app damaged it. Or malware. See if you can figure what was happening at that time.
* If it is long ago, it may be that the disk is failing. Be alert, be sure you have 100% good backups.
