Adobe's text-to-speech function keeps hijacking Mac OS X's version.

In previous versions of Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat Pro, I didn't have to worry about Adobe's built-in text-to-speech (or "Reading") function. I used OS X's built-in text-to-speech hot keys where I can highlight text and press the hot keys read it. Adobe Acrobat DC's function wants to read the whole page. How do I get Adobe's version to stop? I tried deleting the plugin from the .app package but that just prevented anything read.
